SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High dance team, the Ponderettes, were named grand champions and earned a handful of top honors at the Cupid Classic dance competition held Feb. 7 at Post Falls High.

The team, which also wants to thank the community for helping them raise $1,500 for their upcoming events via a fundraiser at Sweet Lou's, took home first place in Individual Kicks, Improv, Hip-Hop, Pom, and Dance; second in Military; and had solo dances that swept the competition, placing first, second, third and fourth. Additionally, the Ponderettes received the Judge's Choice award for their dance routine, the Best Costume award for their hip-hip routine, and even had a dancer earn the Cupid Pick award.

Up next, the girls will compete at the 5A District 1-2 championship, set to be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Lakeland High. The Ponderettes will also host a Showcase Performance on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at Sandpoint High, which will celebrate the talent of the Sandpoint dance and cheer community. With a strong performance at districts, the team could also qualify for the 5A State Championship, which will be held Feb. 27 at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls.
