Janet Lillian (Loff) Deseth, 80, of Hungry Horse, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Jan. 23, 2026.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1945, in Langdon, North Dakota, to Art and Lillian Loff. She spent much of her life between North Dakota and Montana. While living in Grand Forks, North Dakota, she owned and operated Jandy’s clothing store for 20 years.
Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished time spent with her loving husband, Donald, camping, fishing, gardening and gathering with family and friends. After Donald’s passing in 1995, Janet returned to the mountains of Hungry Horse, a place she dearly loved.
In Hungry Horse, she helped her daughter own and operate a family-style restaurant and continued to enjoy gardening, camping, fishing and entertaining in her home. Janet will be remembered for her kindness and generosity; she is already missed dearly by all who knew her.
Janet is survived by her son, Trent Mendenhall; her daughter, Cindy Olson; her grandchildren, Cody Olson and Mason Mendenhall; her great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Brenna Olson and her brother, Randy (Jill).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Art and Lillian Loff and her brothers, Ken and Hal Loff.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
