Donald Arthur Hossack, 78, of Kalispell, passed away on Feb. 13, 2026.
Donald was born in Kalispell on May 22, 1947, to William and Clarice Coulston Hossack. He was the youngest of four sons. Donald attended school in Kalispell before graduating from high school in Grangeville, Idaho. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as a platoon radio operator for Mike Company, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. He received a Silver Star for his heroic actions on Hill 881 South Northwest of Khe Sanh in 1967. He also received a Bronze Star with a V device, and three Purple Hearts. A photo of Private First Class Hossack taken on April 30, 1967, during a firefight on Hill 881 South later became the inspiration for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in San Antonio, Texas. Donald was promoted to Sergeant before the end of his enlistment.
After returning from Vietnam, Hossack attended and graduated from the University of Wyoming before being hired by the Kalispell Police Department where he retired in 1998 as assistant chief of police.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clarice, his brothers, George, John and Charles. He is survived by son, Aaron and his wife, Jennifer of Denton, Texas; daughter, Ashley Harada and her husband, Tim of Billings; and four grandchildren.
