Coach Mike Tessier still believes his Lady Hawks are growing stronger every day.
Putting a bow on it in the game when senior Gabi Hannum scored the 1,000th point of her illustrious Lady Hawk hoop career, the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks ran past the visiting Troy Trojans 65-29 in Thompson Falls Friday.
Now 5-2 in District 7B action and 9-6 overall, coach Mike Tessier and his Lady Hawks have a non-conference weekend on tap with a pair of 6B opponents, playing at Florence, the No. 1 ranked Class B team in the state Friday and returning home to host Deer Lodge Saturday.
Although the game with Florence may seem a daunting task, Tessier is excited for the chance to see what his Lady Hawks can do in face of the Falcon’s famous all-court pressure game and non-stop attack.
“I believe in this team, think they are totally capable of playing with the Florence’s and Loyola’s of the world,” he said. “I just think it’s a matter of them believing it themselves. Once they turn that corner people might be surprised, but not me.”
One thing for certain, when the Lady Hawks are good, they can be very, very good. The Hawks never let Troy get their hand in the game Friday, racing out to a 10-3 lead after one quarter and extending the advantage to 25-9 by halftime.
Scoring the 1,000th point of her career on a free throw with 2:18 left in the third period, Hannum watched time stand still briefly while the crowd honored her for her accomplishment during a brief timeout called for the occasion.
Finishing the game with 1,005 career points now scored, Hannum led the Lady Hawks yet again this night with 17 points, in addition to sweeping away 12 rebounds and a steal, and passing out two assists.
The dynamic Addy Deal was good for 13 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, Solvieg Nygaard for 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Aubrey Baxter 11 points, five boards, an assist and two steals, Annalise Fairbank four points, 10 rebounds
and two assists, Audrey Fairbank six points, three rebounds and three steals and Emma Claridge two points, three rebounds and an assist.
Hailey Dungan and Aspen Orr scored 10 points each for Troy, Ainsley Huitorn six and Olivia Hall three.
