Five Grant County Sheriffs Office deputies are on administrative leave after a fatality shooting Monday evening.

MOSES LAKE — Aaron Ammann, 33, of Moses Lake was killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday evening in rural Moses Lake, according to Grant County Sheriffs Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman. Deputies opened fire on the man while searching a property in the 4700 block of Road L.9 Northeast at about 6:15 p.m.
“The Grant County Sheriff's Office is cooperating with the investigation into the shooting, and that investigation includes the Central Basin Investigative Team,” Foreman said.
He added that the Office of Independent Investigation has been contacted and will look into the case.
Deputies, along with Moses Lake Police Department officers, had gone to the property in the course of another investigation, Foreman said. Upon arrival, a man was noted on the property and officers began looking for him. They eventually encountered him and believed he had a firearm pointed in their direction. The deputies opened fire, reportedly hitting the man, and he later died of the resulting injuries. MLPD officers did not discharge their weapons, Foreman said. Aid was rendered to the man by law enforcement and EMS, but they were unable to save him.
Foreman said he was limited under state law regarding what he could disclose about the investigation that led to officers visiting the property. However, all five deputies have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard policy associated with officer-involved shootings. All officers have been provided a variety of peer and other supports given their involvement in a fatality incident.
Shifts are being adjusted to ensure sufficient coverage while the officers are on administrative leave, Foreman said.
The scene was still active much of the day Tuesday as investigators with CBIT searched for evidence.
Ellensburg Police Department Cpt. Cameron Clasen, whose department participates in CBIT operations, confirmed that the joint team has taken on the investigation. As such, weekly updates will be provided to the media to track the process of the investigation.
The Grant County Coroner’s office released Ammann’s identity after next of kin were notified.
