PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sandpoint boys rough up Lakeland, Moscow for pair of league wins

by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 17, 2026 1:00 AM

BOYS BASKETBALL

Sandpoint 59, Lakeland 29

SANDPOINT — Looking to avenge a 3-point loss to the Hawks earlier this season at the Battle for the Paddle spirit competition, Sandpoint did just that and more.

Junior Knox Williams posted a team-high 15 points, including two first-quarter 3-pointers, a team-high six steals, and four assists, senior Logan Roos gathered a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds and grabbed four steals of his own, and the two connected for an alley-oop dunk in the second half as they led the Bulldogs to a 30-point 5A Inland Empire League victory over the Hawks on Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Senior Kingston Corbett added eight points, junior Derrick Chamberlain had seven points, nine rebounds, and a pair of blocks and steals, and junior Brock Yarbrough had seven points, including a 3-pointer, six rebounds and a game-high six assists for Sandpoint, which scored 16 unanswered points to start off the game and finished things off with a 16-4 fourth-quarter scoring advantage.

"We came out really focused and our press caused them problems from the start," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said. "In the second half, the kids just kept at it, and we were able to get a win over a well-coached win... Knox Williams was just all over the place tonight; he did a good job shooting from the outside and also had some key rebounds and finishes around the basket. Overall, it was a team effort, especially on the defensive end."

Trent Boardman had a team-high 14 points, Jaron Yager eight points and 10 rebounds for Lakeland, which played without star center Brayden Carrel and are now 8-10 on the season.

Senior Caiden Gion tallied four points, junior Tyler Weisz a 3-pointer and four rebounds, junior Logan Iverson grabbed three steals, and Roos added a pair of blocks and assists to the stat sheet on the night for the Bulldogs.
