Valkyries stay atop Northwest A despite narrow loss to Whitefish

BIGFORK — Avery Orme scored 14 points and collected 10 rebounds to lead Whitefish past Bigfork 41-40 in Northwest A girls basketball on Saturday evening.  

Allie Shors scored 7 points in the first quarter to lead Whitefish (12-5 overall, 8-3 in Northwest A games) to an early 17-13 lead; she finished with 11 and Reese Hudson contributed 10. 

The Bulldogs maintained a slim advantage throughout, leading 26-22 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters before holding off a late push by the Valkyries.

Paeten Gunlock led all scorers with 22 points for Bigfork (14-5, 11-2). Payton DeSpain added 8 points.

The Valkyries remain atop the Northwest A conference despite the loss. Bigfork travels to Columbia Falls on Feb. 20 for another league game.
