Phyllis Joan Van Leuven, 92, passed away Feb. 10, 2026, after a long and meaningful life filled with love, resilience and devotion to her family. She was born Nov. 30, 1933, to Harold “Pete” Foster and Sheila (Cooper) Foster, and grew up in Westwood, Calif.
In 1952, Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, Laurence (Larry) Van Leuven, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and commitment. Phyllis dedicated 27 years to serving the community through her work with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, where she was known for her reliability and professionalism. She retired in November of 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents; her sister, Deany Lynn; and her granddaughter, Kristen Van Leuven.
Phyllis treasured her family above all else. She was a devoted mom, sister, grandma and great-grandma.
She is survived by her sister, Pam Crowe, daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Rick Wyman; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Kim Van Leuven, her granddaughter and husband, Kellie and Russ Jones, granddaughter and husband Megan and Heath Taylor, grandson Shawn Van Leuven; grandson and wife Taylor and Jane Van Leuven and her great-grandchildren, Rachael and husband Max Hammond, Kennedy Jones, Mattis Jones, Keigan Taylor, Logan Taylor, Hailey Taylor, Owyn Taylor, Bryce Van Leuven, Harper Van Leuven and Axel Van Leuven.
She enjoyed antiquing, sewing, gardening, walking on the beach, Saturday dinners and card games with family, and was an active and joyful member of the Red Hats. She also enjoyed conversations about her faith and the comfort she found in knowing Jesus as her Savior. Phyllis will be remembered for her strength, her kindness and the deep love she held for her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, Idaho. A viewing will be held beforehand.
