I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 18, 2026 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — Ariana Turnbull (170), Mackenzee Donenfeld (100), and Teagan Newsom (145) all won their contested round robin brackets as the Lady Bulldogs scored 107 points, 12 more than runner-up Lewiston, to win the Lake City Girls Tournament held Saturday at Lake City High.

Turnbull wrestled to three wins by pin, Donenfeld posted two 17-second wins by pin, and Newsom won two bouts by pin and won her opener by a 6-0 decision for Sandpoint. Lilli Marti, uncontested at 235 pounds, claimed a title as well for the Lady Bulldogs. Summer Birch (120) went 3-1 with three wins by pin, and Violet Henney (105) picked up a win by pin and the two both placed second on the day.

Priest River's Naia Lamb won four matches, three by pin and another by medical forfeit, and placed third for the Lady Spartans at 120 pounds.

In the boys' junior varsity tournament, which acted as a tune-up for districts for some teams, Sandpoint's Dominic Ratigan (157) claimed an individual title while Mason McLain (215) added a second-place finish. Ratigan grappled to a win by pin, to a 2-0 win by decision, and to a 17-1 win by technical fall while McLain posted two 40-second wins by pin.

Area girls teams will compete next in the All-class District 1-2 tournament on Thursday at the Bear Den in Moscow. The top two individuals, with the next highest seed in each weight class, advance to the state championship set to be held Feb. 27 and 28 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Sandpoint's boys will compete in the 5A District 1-2 tournament on Saturday at Lakeland High while Priest River's boys will head to St. Maries High on Saturday for the 3A District 1-2 tournament.
