A different ending would have been preferable, but the Troy girls basketball team went down with a fight while honoring its seniors last weekend.

The Lady Trojans recognized Mellissa Laffoon, Brooklyn Reid, Kristi Jellesed and Kylie Cole Saturday at the Troy Activity Center. On the court, Troy gave Stillwater Christian all it could handle in a 61-45 defeat.

Stillwater plays in the Montana Christian Athletic Association and was a back-to-back state champion on 2020-21. Overall, the Cougars have won one dozen state titles.

Trailing 28-21 at the half, Troy closed to within four points, 35-31, with 3:20 to play in the third quarter. Sophomore Ainsley Huitron scored back-to-back baskets, including a hook shot and freshman Aspen Orr hit a free throw following a steal.

While the Cougars eventually pulled away in the fourth quarter, the Lady Trojans gave it their all.

Orr led the Lady Trojans with 18 points and Nautika Larson scored nine. Jellesed tallied six points, freshman Olivia Hall had five and Huitron scored four.

Overall, Orr led Troy with 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals. Hall grabbed eight rebounds, good for second on the team.

Troy (7-10) is scheduled to finish the regular season Saturday at Eureka before the divisional playoffs are held March 5-7 at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo.
