Pack’s Coelho, Sweat to meet in boys 118 final; Braves 2nd

BILLINGS — It may only be Friday, but the Glacier Wolfpack know they will have a state champion wrestler come the end of Saturday.
Aiden Sweat and Anthony Coelho took care of business in the semifinals, and the pair took Glacier’s first ever state wrestling final lockout at 118 pounds.
“These two are both seniors, they are both really experienced wrestlers and we are just going to let them coach themselves,” Wolfpack coach Mark Fischer said. “They did it last week and it turned out just fine.”
Sweat earned a 9-4 decision over Great Falls CMR’s Paydon De La Garza Friday, while Coelho nabbed a 16-0 technical fall victory over Billings Skyview’s Tyler Hovland.
The pair met a week ago in the semifinals at the Western AA divisional, with Coelho taking an 11-3 major decision en route to the Divisional title.
“I think they can both just relax a little bit more knowing that this is their teammate,” Fischer said. “They can relax and just let it fly, we might see a crazy match. Maybe one of the most exciting matches of the finals.”
The pair are the lone finalists for the Wolfpack, who have four other wrestlers still alive on the other side of the bracket. Matthew Ahner (175) and Zander Fuehr (126) sit in the consolation semifinals, while Daniel Pederson (190) and Noah Horn (285) are also alive.
Glacier is eighth in the team standings with 82 points.
“We are going to have a team meeting tonight and talk about heart,” Fischer said. “Matthew Ahner is probably hurting pretty bad right now because he hasn’t been in that losers bracket very often. We will need him to step up and have some heart.”
At the top of the standings sits Billings West at 214 points; in second are the Flathead Braves with 176. Third is Gallatin with 143.5.
The Braves placed nine wrestlers into the semifinals and converted three — Kellen Downing at 132, Hunter Arriaga at 144 and Kohen Riley at 215 — into finals appearances.
“We will get them some rest and keep them relaxed,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “We will let them know, ‘Hey, just wrestle your match, it’s your time and enjoy the process.’ “
Downing squares off with Belgrade’s Cody Westlake — a finalist last year at 110 — while Arriaga matches up with Billings Skyview’s Danny Green, who was runner up at 118 in 2025. Riley faces Billings West’s Peyton Cicero, who claimed third last year at 175.
The Braves still have 11 wrestlers in the consolation brackets with a chance to put plenty on the podium.
“We have exceeded our expectations; we have had a great tournament so far,” Thompson said. “It’s been a whirlwind, you think about some of those tough losses, but that’s the state tournament, crazy things happen. Overall, I am super proud of our boys and we got to keep it rolling for one more day.”
Billings West led all teams with five finalists. The Golden Bears are looking for their fourth straight team championship and still have 18 wrestlers in the competition.
