A Rathdrum man who pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material received a prison sentence.
Matthew D. Koltas, 20, pleaded guilty in November to five counts of sexual exploitation of children by possession of sexually exploitative material.
First District Judge Barry McHugh sentenced Koltas this week to 20 years in prison with parole eligibility after three years.
In August 2025, after investigating a tip about Koltas' Kik account, police executed a search warrant at his home, according to court records. Police seized multiple devices belonging to Koltas for forensic review.
Prosecutors said Koltas’ cellphone contained “numerous images” depicting child sexual abuse.
Investigators also discovered evidence that Koltas was communicating with children and soliciting nude images or videos from them.
When interviewed by police, Koltas said he “would engage in chatrooms where he would locate images of underage girls” and exchange images with others, according to court records.
