STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS: Lakeside, Kellogg, Kootenai fall in first-round games

NAMPA — The fifth-seeded Lakeside Knights shot just 22% (10 of 44) from the field in a 53-34 loss to the fourth-seeded Prairie Pirates of Cottonwood in the first round of the state 2A tournament Thursday at Columbia High. 

Seniors Kyleigh Wolfe and Tylah Lambert scored 12 points each for Lakeside (11-12), which will play No. 8 Vision Charter School (16-7) of Caldwell in a loser-out game today at 11 a.m. PST at Columbia. Vision Charter lost to top-seeded Butte County 71-38. 

Kylie Schumacher had 30 points and nine rebounds for Prairie (21-5), which plays Butte County in the semifinals. Sage Elven added 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Pirates.

KUNA — The eighth-seeded Wildcats shot 11 of 45 in a loss to the top-seeded Dragons in the opening round of the state 3A tournament at Kuna High. 

Junior Jordyn Stutzke had 16 points for Kellogg (14-11), which faces fourth-seeded Ririe (16-10) in a loser-out game today at 11 a.m. PST at Kuna High. Ririe lost 47-39 to fifth-seeded Grangeville. 

Izzy Haycock scored 12 points for Malad (22-2), last year’s runner-up, which faces Grangeville (15-6) in the semifinals tonight.

MERIDIAN — In their first trip to state since 2013, the eighth-seeded Warriors fell to the top-seeded Savages of Riggins in a first-round game at Owyhee High. 

Sophomore Brooklyn Charles had seven points and 13 rebounds for Kootenai (7-9).

Salmon River, 86 points are a single-game record in the 1A classification, breaking the previous mark of 73, set by Summit Academy in 2012 in a 1A Division II game — now 1A. 

Senior Rylee Walters, who has signed with NAIA Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, scored 25 points for Salmon River (24-0), which faces fourth-seeded Deary (21-2) in the semifinals today. 

Kootenai faces fifth-seeded Rockland (18-8) in a loser-out game today at 4 p.m. PST.
