PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Coeur du Christ wins North Star League title

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur du Christ Saints won the North Star League for the second straight year on Friday, beating the Kootenai Warriors 63-30 on senior night at Holy Family Catholic School. 

Sophomore Grant Clemens and junior Mathew Clute scored nine points each for Coeur du Christ (13-6, 4-0 NSL), which had eight players score between 5 and 9 points. 

Senior Riley Ausman scored 12 points for Kootenai (3-12, 2-2), which was outscored 20-0 in the first quarter. 

Coeur du Christ will play Tuesday at 5 p.m. at North Idaho College for the 1A District 1 championship and the district’s lone berth to state. The Saints will face the winner of Monday's 5 p.m. game at NIC between Mullan and Kootenai.

SANDPOINT — The third-seeded Hawks fell to the second-seeded Bulldogs in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament at Les Rogers Court. 

Senior Jaron Yager totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot for Lakeland (8-12), which will play host to fourth seed Moscow (3-19) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a loser-out game. 

Junior Wyatt Fuhriman added eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Hawks. 

Logan Roos had 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots for Sandpoint (11-11), which will play at top-seeded Lewiston (19-3) on Tuesday at 6 for the regional title and a berth to state. Lewiston defeated Moscow 66-43. 

Knox Williams and Brock Yarbrough added 13 points each for the Bulldogs.
