Anyone in the market for a fire station? If so, the Worley Fire District wants to hear from you.

The district is selling Fire Station 2 to help pay for a new $500,000 station being built on an acre and a half of land on Rolling Hills Road, donated by the Hope Ranch Cattle Company.

“It's exciting for us because we’re not using any public funds, we’re not raising taxes and we’re not getting loans or anything like that,” said Fire Chief Scott Campos of Worley Fire Protection District. “We did fundraising to raise half of the money to build the station. Then with the sale of Station 2, we’ll be able to complete the station this year.”

Station 2 is a 4,300-square-foot building with office spaces, a conference room, a kitchen, and an attached garage.

Minimum bids start at $450,000 and must be received at 31541 S. Highway 95, in Worley, by 5 p.m. Monday.

Campos said they have no bids as of Thursday, but he remains hopeful. The goal is to have the new station completed by July.

He said there are options for uses for Station 2.

"Some of the interested people have mentioned storing farming equipment, storage for a car collection, a bakery and using the garage and leasing the rest," Campos said.

The fire district’s jurisdiction includes Worley, Conklin Park, Cave Bay, Windy Bay, Sun-Up Bay and Rockford Bay, in addition to developments and rural, agricultural and timber lands in the area.

Worley Fire currently has five stations. For insurance purposes, the fire district is keeping two of the three unmanned stations open and closing Station 2, 29803 S. Third St., Worley.

“As the community is growing, the fire stations are growing with us,” Campos said. “The new station will be staffed with a firefighter 24/7. The current Station 2 can’t house a firefighter overnight. There will be three firefighters at headquarters and one at the new station."

If the district doesn't receive bids by the Monday deadline, it will consider listing with a real estate agent or accepting the highest bid from the first round of bidding in January, which happened before the building's appraisal. The highest bid was $250,000, which is $200,000 below the appraisal value.
