Eugene Edward Sweeney Jr., 74, known to most as Gene, passed away on Feb. 17, 2026, in Hungry Horse — his longtime home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1952. He was a master welder and skilled craftsman who took pride in his work and the life he built with his hands. His dedication and work ethic earned him the respect of those who knew him.

Gene loved "his girls," his dog, and the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Montana’s rivers, woods, and mountains were his home, where he found peace in quiet moments.

He was stubborn, funny, and completely himself, with a sharp sense of humor and strong will. He lived life on his own terms.

Gene was truly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, many friends, and his loyal dog, D.O.G.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
