Feb. 22: To Mr. and Mrs. Norman Godbe, Moyie Springs, 6 lb. 14½ oz. boy; and To Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boggs, Sandpoint, 9 lb. ½ oz. boy.  Feb. 23: To Mr. and Mrs. Robert Camp, Sandpoint, 9 lb. 5 oz. girl; and To Mr. and Mrs. Gene Clark, Sagle, 6 lb. 4½ oz. girl; and to Mr. and Mrs. Randolph, Priest River, 8 lb. 8¼ oz. boy; and To Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dooley, Sandpoint, 8 lb. 11½ oz. boy.

SERVICE NEWS 

Navy Storekeeper Seaman-Apprentice Darrell D. Duke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Duke, 526 Marion, was graduated from Basic Storekeeper School at the Naval Training Center, Meridian, Miss.  A 1975 SHS graduate, he entered the service in Aug. 1975. 

Kenneth L. Eginton, a member of the Air National Guard, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. His wife, Mary, and his mother, Mrs. Richard Brackett, both live at Sandpoint. 

Staff Sergeant James D. Rauth, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Kalb, Sagle, was named Outstanding Non-commissioned Officer of the Month at Ellsworth AFB, S.D.  Sgt. Rauth, selected for leadership, professional skill and duty performance, is in the 44th Transport Squadron, Strategic Air Command. 

Navy Fireman Recruit Barry L. Crandell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle L. Crandell, Route, 1, Sandpoint, was graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego.

Feb. 24, 1951 – CITY IN BRIEF 

Mrs. Robert Caughey and her mother, Mrs. O.P. Bills, are visiting relatives in Kansas. 

Mrs. W.H. Shook is the guest of her son, Vernon Shook, and family of Moscow. 

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Warren spent Friday in Spokane.  

Mrs. Gene Pucci and son, Jimmy, went to Spokane Monday where Jimmy had an appointment with an ear specialist. 

Herb Jagger, county sanitarian, spent Monday in Priest River on official business.

BEACH IMPROVEMENT DISCUSSED 

A major face-lift for Sandpoint’s municipal beach is in prospect within the next year, as the present beach will become nearly useless when the Albeni Falls dam holds the summer level at 2062.5 feet. The tentative plan of the army corps of engineers is to substitute a different type of facility, making a vast fresh-water swimming pool inside the area now enclosed by the oval-shaped roadway at the current beach. This roadway and the municipal bathhouse site would be raised about 7 feet above their present levels. The material needed would come from hydraulic excavation of the Sand Creek channel so that a small boat mooring basin would be formed. It is likely the beach improvement program would take place next winter. Interested Sandpoint civic leaders will have opportunity to express their views on the proposal before any definite action is taken.
