Man struck by train near Libby identified by authorities

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has received positive identification of the male who was struck by a train on Jan. 19, 2026, north of Libby.

The Montana State Crime lab reported that the body was positively identified as 64-year-old Clinton Leroy Pulver, of Libby.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who provided information during the investigation.

The investigation has been closed at this time.

According to a previous news release, sheriff's dispatch received a report at 10:44 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 about a person who was struck and killed by a train.

Deputies and detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded and located a deceased male. 

BNSF employees said the man was sitting on the tracks facing away when they saw him. They were unable to stop the train, it struck and killed the man and no identification was found.
