Pirates outlast Bulldogs

POLSON — Malakai Curley scored 19 points to lead four Polson players in double figures, and the Pirates withstood a Whitefish rally to beat the Bulldogs 61-56 in Northwest A boys basketball Tuesday.

Holden Amerson added 12 points for the Pirates (8-10, 5-7 in the Northwest A), who led 37-21 at halftime. Cody Haggard had six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter to help keep Whitefish at bay. 

Reyd Hobart hit four 3-pointers in the second half and three in the final frame for the Bulldogs (6-12, 2-10), scoring 14 points after halftime. Aiden Rickels also hit a pair of threes.  

The two teams battle again Thursday in Polson, in a Western A play-in game. The winner has to play again Saturday to get to divisionals.
