- 2/17

Kellogg 68 Priest River 50

PRIEST RIVER — The Wildcats outscored the Spartans 39-20 in the second half of a Central Idaho League win at Priest River High.

“The guys turned it on a little better defensively in the second half,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We just didn’t match the energy that Priest River brought to the table in the first half. They were able to attack us in some spots and our guys got tired of it and did something about it.”

Junior Ty Cheney scored nine of his 16 points in the second half and also had 10 rebounds and junior Porter Lewis had 13 of his 15 points in the first half for Kellogg.

“Ty was a little quiet in the first half and we had a good conversation at halftime,” Martin said. “Offensively, he didn’t settle and did a good job of putting pressure on the middle of their defense in the second half.”

Senior Ian Lamanna scored 21 points for Priest River.

“Really proud of the team, and especially all seven of the seniors for getting a win on senior night,” Timberlake coach Juston Henry said. “The guys did a great job of finding Max down low and he converted a lot of low post points.”

Draeden Taylor scored 18 points, Cayden Honnerlaw 15, Porter Lewis 14 for the Wildcats, who were without starting wing Evan Vindasius, who was out with the flu.

“Hat’s off to Timberlake; much improved from when we saw them earlier,” said Kellogg coach Mike Martin, whose Wildcats beat the Tigers 72-50 on Jan. 10. “We got a nice lesson on when the other team plays harder.”
