It had been 1,810 days since Whitefish last defeated Columbia Falls in girls basketball.
On Tuesday night last week, that streak finally ended.
The Bulldogs controlled the tempo early and held off every Wildkat rally in a 48-38 Northwest A victory, Whitefish’s first win over Columbia Falls since March 5, 2021, at the Class A State tournament.
Whitefish (12-5 overall, 8-3 Northwest A) wasted little time asserting itself. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter behind sharp outside shooting from Allie Shors and strong interior play from Avery Orme.
Shors connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, while Orme powered her way to 19 points. Reese Hudson added 10 points.
Whitefish built a 29-18 halftime lead and never trailed.
Columbia Falls (9-9, 7-4) made its run in the second half behind Onnikka Lawrence, who scored from the free-throw line, midrange and beyond the arc. Lawrence finished with 16 points, including two 3-pointers.
Whitefish finished with six 3-pointers and committed just nine fouls.
