Photography exhibit documents birds in fleeting encounters

Artist Daniel Lombardi documents the fleeting moments of connection between humans and the wild in a solo exhibit at Good Luck Gallery.
The exhibit titled Recalling Birds opens Friday, March 6, with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the gallery in downtown Kalispell.
The exhibition features a striking body of cyanotype photographs documenting birds caught, studied, and released in the Northern Rockies. It runs through April 17.
Using the historic cyanotype process, Lombardi creates luminous blue-toned images that exist at the intersection of art, science, and memory. The images originally come from a scientific research process to track bird population changes across the Northern Rockies. The final art pieces, printed in monotone on worn paper, evoke more spirituality than science.
Recalling Birds invites viewers to slow down and engage with moments that are both intimate and ephemeral. Through these images and a series of short essays, Lombardi encourages viewers to exercise their imagination and think about the future.
The opening reception on March 6 is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to meet the artist and experience this thoughtful new body of work. This is a family-friendly event with proceeds to benefit the Flathead Audubon Society.
