New Indian organization is started
Many of the Indians of the Flathead Reservation have gone on the warpath; not with bows and arrows and tomahawks, but with voices, pens and paper, Henry Lozeau, Missoula, chairman, said in announcing the information of a new group.
They are uprising in an effort to procure better conditions as a whole for all the Indians belonging to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
In order to give the Indians more voice on how they are being governed, they have formed an organization named the Flathead-Kootenai organization. This is a non-profit organization. Membership is gained by signing a petition, which is now in circulation …
High School Redoe Assn elects officers at Arlee
The first 1962 High School rodeo meeting for District 5 was held at the Carol Herron home Feb. 12. The high school officers are: Judith Schall, Arlee, president; Doug Walker, Ana-conda, vice president; Boni Piedalue, Ronan, secretary. The adult officers are Carl Heron, Arlee, president; Kenny Pieda-lue, Ronan, vice president; and Rusty Herron, Arlee, secretary. Directors for the district are: Grant Hovde, Charlo and Leonard Gagnon, Anaconda.
The 1962 District High School Rodeo was planned for this year, and it was decided that it would be held in Ronan, June 16-17. The stock for the rodeo will be furnished by Ted Clatterbuck of Ronan. The trophies and prizes for each event were discussed, and arrangements were made for them to be ordered.
A suggestion of having a no-host supper for the students was discussed. A motion was made that this subject be tabled until the April meeting …
Mission Bullpups defeat St. Francis
In a game played Feb. 3 in the Loyola gym in Missoula, the Mission Bullpups won their return match with St. Francis by coming from behind and sweeping to a 30-16 victory. The Bullpups were behind at the beginning by a 5-0 and managed a 9-9 tie at halftime. They opened for 17 points in the third quarter while holding St. Francis to 4. Johnnie Hilton with 8 points and Francis Weaselhead with 6 points led the locals in scoring, while Lyman Gallup pulled in 9 rebounds to lead in that department. The Bullpups B. Squad won the preliminary by a 32-20 score with Jim Sorrell hitting for 18 points to lead all scorers.
