Wildkats use second-quarter surge to down Bulldogs

A decisive second-quarter run in the Cat-Dog game lifted Columbia Falls past Whitefish 63-47 in Northwest A Conference boys basketball action.
After building an 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Wildkats (13-4 overall, 9-2 Northwest A) broke the game open in the second.
Junior Jory Hill sparked the surge with back-to-back 3-pointers to give Columbia Falls a 29-13 advantage. Jett Pitts added another triple, and Bjorn Pedersen capped a 13-0 run with a reverse layup before halftime. The Wildkats took a 34-19 lead into the break.
Hill finished with a team-high 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. Pedersen added 11 points.
Whitefish showed fight in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 59-47 behind eight points from Leo Bungener and a 3-pointer from Reyd Hobart. But the Bulldogs could get no closer.
Bungener led Whitefish with 16 points, while Cooper Dudley added seven and Jayke Thew contributed six.
Columbia Falls connected on eight 3-pointers in the game, compared to three for Whitefish.
