Trinidie Nichols
Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball
The 5-foot-5 senior point guard from Post Falls High was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week. It took Nichols just 26 minutes to complete the conference's second triple-double of the season and just the ninth overall since the league was formed in 2001-02. Nichols scored 15 points, added 10 rebounds and finished one off the GNAC single-game record with 10 steals in the NCAA Division II Nighthawks' 71-44 triumph over Montana State Billings on Saturday. It was just the second triple-double recorded by a Nighthawk since the GNAC was formed, and came after Nichols also helped NNU beat Seattle Pacific 93-57 on Thursday night, posting nine points, seven rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes. Nichols, who previously played at Columbia Basin College and at NAIA Montana Western, leads the GNAC with 2.9 steals per game this season, and averages 12.7 points and 2.6 assists per game. "Trin is just tough," Northwest Nazarene coach Steve Steele said. "I haven't coached many players who want to win as badly as she does. If we need her to score she can, if we need her to get 10 assists she can and if we need her to get 10 rebounds or steals she can do that as well. Nobody was surprised to see her stat line, but I was really happy to see her have such a great senior night." The Nighthawks (16-9, 11-6 GNAC) wrap up the regular season Saturday at Central Washington, before heading into the conference tournament.
Tori Younker
Corban University women's basketball
The redshirt senior guard from Coeur d'Alene High hit 9 of 11 3-pointers and scored a career-high 27 points last Saturday to help the Warriors of Salem, Ore., clinch a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship with a 99-59 win at Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash., in the regular-season finale. Younker, who set a school record for 3s made in a game, also had five assists. Following tiebreaker procedure, Corban (23-5, 16-4 CCC) earned the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, along with the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament which the Warriors will host starting on Friday at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. It's the Warriors' first conference title in 15 years. On Friday, Younker hit three 3s and scored 12 points as the Warriors, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, won 70-64 at No. 12 Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. Younker is averaging 9.6 points per game and has a team-high 52 3-pointers for Corban.
