POST FALLS — The 3rd Avenue Marketplace is working to increase funding for several programs that support vulnerable community members.

"While these programs are vital to the organization’s mission, they remain consistently underfunded," Executive Director Charlene Holbrook said.

One of the most impactful initiatives is the Backpack Program, which serves more than 250 students multiple times each month and ensures children have access to nutritious food outside school.

To preserve dignity and privacy, food is discreetly placed in students’ backpacks while they are at recess, allowing them to receive support without drawing attention.

"Our Backpack Program is especially close to our hearts," Holbrook said. "No child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, and this program helps bridge that gap in a thoughtful and respectful way."

3rd Avenue Marketplace also offers senior programs designed to nourish both body and spirit.

Seniors are invited to enjoy freshly prepared hot lunches twice a week, along with a variety of enrichment activities.

A key opportunity for involvement is the Bingo Sponsorship Program, which funds prizes for senior participants.

"We want our seniors to experience joy, connection and a sense of community," Holbrook said. "Something as simple as a bingo prize can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day."
