The Coeur d’Alene Design Review Commission unanimously approved the design of a new five-story,173-room Hilton Dual Brand Hotel during its noon meeting Thursday.

Associate Planner Tami Stroud said the applicant, Richard Design Partnership LLC, meets all required codes and guidelines, but added one condition: the firm must keep the hotel design similar to the one proposed to the DRC.

“I’m glad they approved the design,” said Hilton Dula Brand Project Manager Cameron Hudspeth.”

Hudspeth said the only planned modification to the design was to add more trees to the site, to which the commission had no rebuttal.

There is no targeted start or completion date set as of yet.

“We hope to have all the permits submitted by June,” Hudspeth said. “A project like this typically takes between 18 and 20 months to complete once construction begins.”

The site is a vacant 2.71-acre parcel of land off Lee Court and Appleway Avenue owned by the Wealth Hospitality Group. The DRC first met Nov. 18 to discuss the project, and then met with Hudspeth and a member of the Wealth Hospitality Group on Dec. 19.

Stroud said anyone opposed to the project has 15 days to appeal the commission’s decision.
