Margaret Mary Morlan, 73, was born to Joseph Francis Kaplos and Monica Susan Kapelos. She recently passed away and is survived by her sister Kate, her sister Ann, and her brothers Tom and Jim.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Paul and Joe, and by her beloved husband, Cary Morlan.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Eric “Bubba” Morlan and his wife Jessica, and Shane Morlan and his wife Jessica. She was a proud grandmother to Heather “Honey Bunny,” Karlin, Malcolm, Wesley, Reese, James, and Jameson. Her grandchildren were the joy of her later years, and she devoted herself to them with love, wisdom, humor and her trademark pragmatism.

She graduated from Tyee High School and was just four credits short of earning her degree from Pacific Lutheran University. Margaret worked for the United States Postal Service and built a life rooted in perseverance and service.

In 1994, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She faced that diagnosis with grit and determination, refusing to let it shape the limits of her life.

One of the central fixtures in the Morlan household was a large Webster’s dictionary that Eric and Shane used throughout their school years. It was a source of answers and clarity, filled with words meant to define the world. Yet Margaret never allowed any single word to define her. She would not be reduced to her illness, to her struggles or even to her recovery. Instead, she reshaped what those experiences meant, both for herself and for the people around her.

Margaret used the lessons from her own hardships and victories to help others find their footing. She became a dedicated sponsor in Narcotics Anonymous, walking alongside many people during some of the most difficult seasons of their lives. She offered guidance, accountability, compassion and hope – often becoming a steady presence when others felt lost.

In 2010, she lost her husband Cary, and with him a profound part of her heart. Together, Margaret and Cary modeled enduring love and commitment for their sons. Through every challenge life placed before them, they remained loyal and steadfast to one another, setting an example of partnership that will carry on through generations.

Margaret loved Cadbury eggs, Caramellos, strong coffee, crossword puzzles the Pittsburgh Steelers, and, above all else, her family. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, honesty, devotion and love that cannot be captured in a single definition but is written instead in the lives of those she touched.

A celebration of life will be held at Journey Church at 303 E. Nelson Road in Moses Lake on April 11, 2026, at 1 p.m. All who loved and celebrated Margret are welcome to attend.

Margaret Morlan adored her husband, Cary Morlan. The couple spent many happy years together.
