NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals rally for split with Spokane

SPOKANE — Aspen Roberts, a freshman outfielder from Riverton, Utah, scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning of the nightcap to give North Idaho College a 6-5 lead, and the Cardinals went on to beat Spokane Colleges (formerly Community Colleges of Spokane) 11-7 to earn a split of a nonconference doubleheader at Spokane Falls Community College on Friday. 

Roberts had three hits and two RBIs for NIC, which trailed 4-0 after the first inning. Bella Magallon, a freshman from Vallivue High in Caldwell, scored three runs for NIC (5-10). 

Addyson Stewart, a freshman from St. Maries, hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first for Spokane. 

Spokane (3-3) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh in the opener to beat NIC 11-10. 

The teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader today at Spokane Falls at noon.
