PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Sandpoint headed to state play-in after fast start pays dividends against Moscow

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 28, 2026 1:00 AM

Sandpoint 72, Moscow 44

MOSCOW — In a game to keep their season alive, it was business as usual for Sandpoint.

Senior Logan Roos had 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half, including a 3-pointer, to go along with six rebounds, junior Knox Williams put together a solid line of five points, including a 3-pointer, eight assists, six steals and two blocks — all team-high's — and the No. 2 Bulldogs' full-court press paid off in a big way as they defeated the No. 4 Bears by a 28-point margin in Thursday night's 5A District 1-2 loser-out game at Les Rogers Court.

Junior Logan Iverson contributed 14 points, including a 3-pointer, and fellow junior Derrick Chamberlain recorded 14 points of his own, six rebounds and three steals for Sandpoint, which led 37-19 at intermission and had 18 steals compared to Moscow's two.

"The kids did a great job of coming out and executing our gameplan in regard to picking them up full court and pounding the paint on the offensive end," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said. "We missed some buckets early that we normally make, but the boys kept after it and wore Moscow down."

Jonah Couch had 13 points, including three 3-pointers, as did Abram Godfrey, including two 3-pointers, for Moscow, which finished the season with a record of 4-20. Jonas Mordhorst added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Bears.

Senior Caiden Gion drained two 3-pointers and had eight points in total, junior Brock Yarbrough tallied six points and four rebounds, and senior Tyler Weisz collected five points, six rebounds and three steals for Sandpoint (12-12), which will play Vallivue (18-7) in this afternoon's state play-in game at Grangeville High, with tip-off set for 1 p.m. Vallivue defeated Middleton 79-62 in the District 3 Southern Idaho Conference third-place game.

Vallivue and Sandpoint met earlier this year on day three of the TitleOne Tip-Off Classic in Idaho Falls, where the Falcons won by a score of 59-54.

"I've got a lot of respect for Vallivue and coach Betancourt; they do an awesome job," coach Love noted of the program based out of Caldwell. "I knew about their program when I was coaching the girls... they have a senior, older group that has played together quite a bit. They're a quality team that's hungry like we are. We're going to have to be ready to go."
