Robert Dreyer, 90
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 week, 2 days AGO
Robert (Bob) Dreyer, age 90, of Coeur d'Alene, passed away peacefully at Hospice House on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.
Bob was born in Torrance, Calif., on Sept. 7, 1935, the only son of Lewis and Louise Dreyer. Bob moved with his parents and sister to the Bay Area when he was 5 years old. His father worked on building ships for the Second World War effort.
Bob graduated from High School in San Leandro, Calif., and received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from San Francisco State. He met his beautiful wife, Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Miller, in college, and they married at All Saints Episcopal Church, where Bob had attended as a child, on April 13, 1958.
Bob loyally served his country as a Marine from 1953 to 1957. After Bob’s time in the service, he worked in the corporate world for several years at Crown Zellerbach before moving to Idaho. Bob, Gwen and their four children all worked together at Topper In-and-Out, the restaurant they bought upon moving to Idaho. Bob then became the owner/broker of Century 21 Town and Country in Coeur d’Alene until 1991. The family has lived in Coeur d'Alene for 53 years.
Bob volunteered and served all his life in Coeur d’Alene. Among the many positions he held were President of the Board of Realtors, Rotary President from 1999-2000, member of the Fair Board, member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for Kootenai County, member of the Chamber of Commerce, coach of Junior Tackle Football, member of the Gideons, and Hospice volunteer.
Bob had many hobbies, including golf, deep-sea fishing, Washington State University football games and tending his roses, but what you all really need to know about Bob is how fiercely loyal he was to his wife and family. Oh, how Bob loved his family! Bob was a pillar at any event, whether it was on a football field, basketball court or music room; it didn’t matter where it took place, Bob was there. Not only was Bob there for his four children’s events, but he also made it to the grandchildren’s events. If a grandchild graduated from high school, Bob was there, even if he had to fly to get there. Bob’s last grandchild came many years after the first 10 and you could find Bob ziplining at 80 years of age because he was going to make sure they all had the same kind of experience. Bob instilled the importance of family, and we will all carry that with us. Bob left an incredible legacy.
Bob is survived by Gwen, his wife of 67 years; his children: Donna Nixon, John (Ann) Dreyer, Mike (Amy) Dreyer and Anne (Dusty) Farrell; his grandchildren: Sam (Noelle) Dreyer, Nick Dreyer, Nicki (Robbie) Lindsay, Max (Shea) Dreyer, Zack (Haley) Dreyer, Carly (Anthony) Ebel, Haley (Dan) McMillan, Madison Farrell, Jack Dreyer and Roman Farrell; his great grandchildren: Emma and Josh Lindsay, Payton Ebel and two great-grand babies on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Merriam and his precious grandson, Bryce Nixon.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
