I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 1, 2026 1:00 AM
Thomas Bateman, Treasure Valley CC Basketball
After a 17-day hiatus from action due to a game cancelation, 2025 Bonners Ferry High graduate Thomas Bateman and the Chukars returned to the hardwood against No. 13 College of Southern Idaho (14-1) on Tuesday night, falling by a score of 105-60. Despite the loss, Bateman scored a season-high eight points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field, pulled down five rebounds, three of which were offensive, and dished out an assist across 17 minutes off the bench for Treasure Valley. On the season, the 6-foot-5-inch freshman forward and former Badger standout has now scored in all 11 games, averaging 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.7 steals per game across an average of 14.2 minutes of court time. Playing alongside fellow 2025 Bonners Ferry High graduate Brody Rice, who scored two points across 18 minutes of action in the loss to the Golden Eagles, Bateman and Treasure Valley CC (3-8) will look to get back into the win column as they start Northwest Athletic Conference play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, against Columbia Basin College and then travel to Big Bend on Saturday, Jan. 10.
