IDAHO FALLS —Post Falls’ bid to win the East Idaho Shootout literally came down to the last second Wednesday afternoon.
Turns out, the Trojans needed just six-tenths of that second.
Inbounding the ball under their basket and trailing by one, Jaxon Lysne set the screen, Isaiah Naylor threw the lob and Cashton Bodman caught the lob in front of the basket and laid it in with .4 seconds left, lifting Post Falls past Highland of Pocatello 63-62 in the title game at Skyline High.
“Jaxon set the best screen,” Post Falls coach Jayson Ulrich said. “It was a heckuva game.”
Bodman, a junior, scored 20 points for Post Falls (8-3) and was named tournament MVP. Lysne added 16 points. Connor Carver suffered a sprained ankle in the first half, tried to play through it in the second, but could only go a couple minutes after intermission. He finished with eight points.
In his place, senior Alex Dean totaled seven offensive rebounds, five in the second half.
“He gave us high energy,” Ulrich said of Dean. “He was flying around.”
Raphael Njoku scored 14 points, Tracen Tripple 13 for Highland (7-2).
The Rams took a 62-61 lead on a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left. Post Falls missed a shot, but the ball went out of bounds off Highland with one second left, and the Trojans took a timeout to set up their last-second play.
“We were definitely not as defensively sound as we were last night,” Ulrich said. “They were so fast, attacking the basket and kicking for 3s. But Cashton and Jaxon got some big buckets for us.”
Post Falls plays host to Ridgeline of Liberty Lake on Friday.

LEWISTON — Junior Draedon Taylor scored a game-high 20 points for the 3A Wildcats, who fell to the 5A Bears in the fourth-place game of the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State College.
“He had a pretty good tournament offensively,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “He’s been more efficient offensively and getting to better spots on the floor.”
Kellogg went 1-2 in the tournament, beating Pendleton 62-59 on Tuesday.
“I really like coming to this tournament because it’s a good temperature check of where we’re at,” Martin said. “It really revealed some of the things we haven’t gotten better at in the last month. It really just identified some bad habits that we’ve got to clean up fast.”

Freshman Jaeli Hoffman scored 17 points and junior Macy Bretveld added 16 points for Lakeland (10-2), which travels to Sandpoint for a 5A Inland Empire League game on Tuesday.

IDAHO FALLS — Junior Brooklyn Reese hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter, finishing with a game-high 20 points for the Trojans in a win over the Rams of Pocatello in a consolation game in the Coast Guard Bracket of the East Idaho Shootout at Thunder Ridge High.
“Brooklyn really came out and got us going in the first half,” said Post Falls coach Brian Carlson, whose team led 33-26 at halftime. “Marc Allert (Post Falls assistant coach) told the girls that offense was what got us the lead in the first half, but defense is going to win it for us. Having a coach like him tell them that, they just started to believe in it.”
Post Falls held Pocatello to 14 points in the second half.
Mylee Stucki scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half for Pocatello.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how Gracie (Gluhak) and Rylan (Morrison) played off the bench,” Carlson said. “They had a post (Stucki) that just killed us in the first half and they were physical with us, but those two came in and gave us a great lift.”
Sophomore Annabelle Tucker scored 13 points for Post Falls (5-11), which hosts Ridgeline of Liberty Lake on Friday.
