BELGRADE — Coming off titles at the CMR Holiday Classic, Bella Downing and Julia Kay earned their way into another semifinal to start the new year at the Montana Super 14 tournament Friday.

Downing, who claimed her fourth consecutive CMR title and earned the girls outstanding wrestler award, defeated teammate Kyra McMahon for a spot in Saturday’s semifinals. She faces Billings Senior’s Ava Dewitt.

Kay used a pair of pins to earn her spot in the semis, where she will face Helena Capital’s Leila McKay.

Kiera Lackey also sits with a shot at a title at 135 pounds using a trio of pins to advance to a semifinal matchup against Senior’s Elizabeth Sherman.

Five other Bravette wrestlers are alive in the consolation rounds with hopes of getting on the podium Saturday.

The Bravettes sit second in the team standings with 106 points, trailing Billings Senior at 122.5. Miles City is third at 100 points.

The tournament continues Saturday at Belgrade High School.
