Larry Vaughn Cummings

Larry Vaughn Cummings, 80, of Troy, Montana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at the Libby Care Center.

Born on March 10, 1945, in Troy, Montana to William "Alex" and Violet Cummings, Larry was raised in the tight-knit community of Troy. After graduating from high school, he proudly joined the United States Navy, serving his country with dedication. During his service, he met Judy Lowenberg, and the couple got married on Jan. 27, 1967.

Larry and Judy later returned to Montana, where he began a distinguished career in public service as a deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Through hard work and commitment, he advanced to the position of Under-Sheriff. Following his time in law enforcement, Larry worked for ASARCO for many years until the mines closure. He then became a co-owner of two local businesses in Libby: Henry's Restaurant and Dano's Car Wash.

Above all, Larry cherished spending time with his family. He was also deeply committed to his community, generously volunteering at the Troy Senior Citizens Center and the Milnor Lake Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents, Alex and Violet Cummings; his sister, Wanda Bryant; and his brothers, Bill and Jim.

Larry is survived by his loving children, Terry (Cindy) Cummings of Troy and Jerry (Andrea) Cummings of Troy; his grandchildren, Danielle, Megan, Dylan, and Devynn; his great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Vanessa, Evander, Charlotte, and Octavia; his brothers, John (Dixie) Cummings of Libby; Bob (Sue) Cummings of Troy; Mike (Nancy) Cummings of Petaluma, California; his sister, Cindy Shelley of Chehalis, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Larry's life was marked by service, hard work and a profound love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was laid to rest on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Milnor Lake Cemetery in Troy. 

A celebration of Larry's life will be announced at a later date.
