SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Flathead put four wrestlers on the top of the podium and claimed the team championship at the Pacific Northwest Classic at University High School.
Hunter Arriaga (144 pounds), Brett Chivers (157), Conor Leduc (190) and Kohen Riley (215) brought home individual titles for the Braves.
Flathead finished with 243.5 points to take a commanding victory over University (Wash.) at 152 and West Valley (Wash.) with 143.5.
“This was just a total team effort” said coach Tucker Nadeau. “All of our guys continue to impress with their aggression and hustle.
“Overall, we’re seeing some great progress but we’ve still got a lot to work on over the next month and a half.”
After one day, Glacier moved up the standings from eighth to a fourth-place finish in the team competition with two wrestlers earning titles, including Matthew Ahner defeating Flathead’s Colten Conover in a crosstown final at 175.
Aiden Sweat grabbed the Wolfpack’s other individual title at 120 with a technical fall over Kennewick’s (Wash.) Jacob Priest.
The Wolfpack also saw Noah Horn with a second-place finish at 285 and Zander Fuehr take a third at 126.
“Huge breakout day for the Wolfpack boys today,” Wolfpack coach Mark Fischer said. “Four placers with a few others just one match away from placing. Team looked to be turning a corner and winning many of their matches in the third period. It was a great team effort.”
Flathead placed five other wrestlers on the podium, including Conover in second at 175. Aiden Lake (120) and Liam Leduc (165) placed third for the Braves.
Dawson Hamland took 5th at 126, and Jacob Berry took 6th at heavyweight.
Flathead and Glacier meet Friday at the Wolf Den for a crosstown dual.
