PREP WRESTLING: Coeur d'Alene second after first day at Rollie Lane

NAMPA — Coeur d’Alene, with three quarterfinalists, is second with 93 points after Friday’s first day of the 26th Rollie Lane Invitational at the Ford Idaho Center. 

Sophomore Micah Miller (98 pounds), senior Justus Peregrina (120) and junior Brock Armstrong (190) advanced to the quarters for Coeur d’Alene, which trails Gonzaga Prep by four points for the lead in the 92-team tournament. 

“Justus has been wrestling solid all year and beat a good kid from Nampa to advance,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He’s just wrestling aggressive and putting points on the board and doing what he does. He’s got a lot of talent. If he can stay solid and wrestle tough, he can beat a lot of people.” 

Miller did not compete at Tri-State on Dec. 19-20 at North Idaho College due to injury.

“Micah’s coming off a knee injury, but he’s tough as well and wrestled aggressive,” Moffat said. “We’re just talking it one match at a time. It’s just going to get tougher tomorrow.” 

Junior Carson Leonard (120) and junior Gage McWatters (175) advanced for Lakeland, which is 39th with 36 points. 

Timberlake senior Wyatt Carey, who finished runner-up at Tri-State, advanced at 113. 

Post Falls sophomore Ryker Allen (120) advanced to the quarterfinals, where he’ll face Leonard for a spot in the semifinals. 

Macdonald, Bridwell advance

to semis at Northwest Classic

SPOKANE VALLEY — Lake City seniors Josh Macdonald (157 pounds) and Tucker Bridwell (165) went unbeaten on the first day to advance to the semifinals of the Pacific Northwest Classic at University High. 

“Those guys really showed their maturity,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “We’re really relying on those guys this year. They both got a good warmup and wrestled to their ability. They’re both very capable of winning it if they stay within themselves, and they did that today.” 

Sophomore Enzo Attali (126), senior Connor Johnson (132), senior Caden Ford (138), sophomore Caden Ramey (144), senior Duncan Morrow (165), junior Chance Browne (190) and senior James Vincent (215) are alive in the consolation bracket for Lake City, which is tied for sixth with 69 points. 

Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., leads the tournament with 132.5 points. 

Post Falls goes 1-1 in 

first day at The CLASH

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Post Falls went 1-1 in its first two duals in Bracket A of The CLASH at the La Crosse Center. 

Post Falls defeated Park Hill, Mo., 43-19 before falling to Saint Michael-Albertville, Minn, 55-8 in its bracket final. 

Damion Hamilton won by decision and by technical fall at 172 for the Trojans, who moved into the Second Bracket and will compete in a round-robin against the second-place programs from the other brackets to determine placing. 

Post Falls faces Bettendorf (Iowa) in the first round, then faces Shakopee (Minn.), and concludes with Washington (Illinois).

• GIRLS

Area girls advance to quarters

at Rollie Lane Invitational

NAMPA — Post Falls senior Emma Younger (120), sophomore Kahli Brown (135) and sophomore Kassie Voss (235), Timberlake senior Shelby Garten (125) and Coeur d’Alene’s Brooklyn Anderson (190) went unbeaten and advanced to the quarterfinals of the girls Rollie Lane Invitational at the Ford Idaho Center. 

“Brooklyn is Brooklyn and just goes out and wrestles aggressive,” Moffat said. “She’s won it twice but has some tough kids in her bracket, so we’ll see what happens.”

Voss will face Lilli Marti of Sandpoint for a spot in the semifinals. 

Thunder Ridge of Idaho Falls leads with 89 points.
