PREP BASKETBALL: Pearson leads way as Lake City girls shake off rust

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Ella Pearson scored 17 points for Lake City in a 48-46 win over the Lewis and Clark Tigers of Spokane on Saturday at Lake City High. 

“We had a two-week break from our last game, and that being said I was proud of my kids for how hard they worked,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “We had some rust, but played hard and played well together. Lewis and Clark plays hard and that only helps us going forward. We had such great contributions from everyone.” 

Senior Taylor Brouse scored nine points for Lake City (5-7), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday. 

Olivia Baird scored 20 points for Lewis & Clark (3-6).

COEUR d’ALENE — In a game which featured a teriffic individual battle, the host Vikings rallied from six points down after three quarters to beat the Eagles of Missoula at Viking Court. 

Junior Brookeslee Colvin scored 34 points for Coeur d’Alene (12-2). 

Senior point guard Avory Decoite answered with 36 points for Big Sky (3-2). 

"Brookeslee welcomes competitive competition and feeds off it," Coeur d'Alene coach Stacy Boyd said. "When we were talking about matchups, she immediately told me she was going to guard Decoite; she watches film and studies matchups. Brookeslee always wants to guard the best player, no matter what. 

Sophomore Lexie Wheeler added 20 points for Coeur d’Alene. 

"When Brookeslee fouled out with 3 minutes left in the game, I was proud of the way our team stepped up and did what they needed to do to seal the win," Boyd said. "We have to have that next-player-up mentality."

Sophomore Kenzi Schmitz added 12 for Big Sky. 

Coeur d’Alene opens 6A Inland Empire League play Tuesday at Post Falls.

Senior Aedan O’Neill scored a game-high 16 points for Coeur du Christ (6-2). Senior Jerome Cools added 14 points, sophomore Grant Clemens 13 for the Saints. 

Sean Conway and Gabe Cary scored 15 points each for Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame (5-5), from Spokane.

Colt Quimby added 12 points, JJ Vara 10 for Christian Center School (7-2. 4-0 MCL), which was coming off a 64-43 loss to Flathead Valley Home School Association on Wednesday at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls.
