C-Falls girls pull away late, defeat Ronan

COLUMBIA FALLS — Alexa Friske scored 18 points to lead the Wildkats past Ronan 63-55 in Class A girls' basketball on Tuesday evening.


Onnikka Lawrence and Rylee Sweeney made six free throws combined down the stretch for Columbia Falls (3-3), each tallied 10 points. 


Ronan’s (1-5) Nefertiti Stewart scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half. Maddy Illig added two 3-pointers to score 12. Kailyn Marengo contributed 9. 


The Wildkats jumped out to a 16-7 lead and carried momentum into halftime with a 28-17 advantage. Both teams scored 21 points in the third period.  


Stewart’s eight points helped Ronan outscore Columbia Falls 17-14 in the final period, but the Wildcats outlived the comeback attempt.  


Columbia Falls continues with a matchup against Bigfork on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:15 p.m.
