Our beloved Doris Mae Miller, age 67, passed away Dec. 24, 2025, in Seattle, Wash., surrounded by the love of her family. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at the Kootenai Community Church with Jay Cates officiating.

Doris was born in Litchfield, Minn., on Dec. 27, 1957, and grew up farming, where she learned early on how to work hard and take care of those around her. Her teen years were full of adventure as she traveled to Israel, Greece and participated in the foreign exchange program which took her to Ecuador where she met Moni who became her sister for life. She graduated from Goodridge, Minn., in 1975 where she was voted best dancer, sweetest smile, friendliest and was part of the homecoming court.

On Dec. 21, 1980, Doris married the love of her life, Jamie Miller. Life later took her to Montana, North Dakota, Colorado, and eventually to Sandpoint, Idaho, where she and Jamie raised their three children and built a life centered on family.

If you knew Doris, you knew her warmth. She had a rare gift of making people feel instantly welcome — whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or a stranger who simply crossed her path. Her presence carried a kindness that put people at ease, and she had a way of shining a positive light wherever she went. She never sought attention, but her goodness was impossible to miss.

She worked in the health industry and had a natural way of making people feel welcome and cared for. Doris had a servant’s heart and quietly showed up for others in ways big and small.

Doris graduated from Moler Barber College (North Dakota) in 1979, having learned skills that she put to use for family, friends and … pets throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress and crafter who always had a project whether it was sewing clothes for her children or restoring old furniture. She loved Hawaii and being on the water boating, but nothing mattered more to her than time spent with her family — especially her grandchildren. They were her greatest joy, and she loved them fiercely.

Doris never shied away from hard work or heavy lifting and was always the first to offer help to everyone around her. She lived her life guided by faith, kindness, and a steady belief in doing what was right. Her love was constant, her strength unwavering, and her heart endlessly generous. The impact she made on those around her will continue to be felt for years to come.

Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Jamie; her daughter, Kay Leigh, her husband Mike, and their son, Taylor; her son, Luke, his wife Stacey, and their children Ava and Jack; and her daughter Abby, her husband Chris, and their children Axel, Trapper, and Wilder.

We will always remember Doris for her strength, her selflessness, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She was our safe place, our greatest example, and the heart of our family. She meant everything to us, and her love will live on in our hearts forever.
