KELLOGG – The Kellogg School District will begin the process of filling the Zone 1 trustee position following the conclusion of Monica Ross's term last month. 

Ross would've run unopposed in the November 2025 Election, but decided not to refile for the seat, citing ongoing health concerns. Ross, who was also appointed, had served on the board since October 2023.

“It was interesting to learn how hard it is to effect change,” Ross said. “But it was nice to have a voice on the four-day school week.” 

Board Chairwoman Alexa Griffin thanked Ross for her service, noting her role in championing the four-day schedule. 

“Monica brought the experience of having current high school students in our district and a different insight to our operations,” Griffin said. “Her time may have been short, but it was valued during a critical time, such as our decision to pilot the four-day week.” 

According to KSD Administrative Clerk Megan Bumgardner, the board will formally announce the vacancy at its Jan. 13 meeting and begin accepting applications afterward. 

Zone 1 covers the southern portion of Kellogg and everything east of the city to Big Creek. Applicants must be registered voters in the Kellogg School District and reside within Zone 1. 

Applications must include a letter of interest with contact information, telephone number, email address, and residential address, a statement outlining the applicant’s background, reasons for seeking the position, and any district affiliations, such as PTA membership, volunteer work, or committee participation. A current resume is also required. 

Applications are due at the Kellogg School District Office by noon on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026. 

The appointed trustee will serve through Dec. 31, 2029. Once the position is announced, applications can be submitted at www.kelloggschools.org. 

The Board of Trustees will review applications and may appoint a candidate at its next public meeting, scheduled for February.
