LEWISTON — Junior Draeden Taylor scored 12 points for the 3A Wildcats in a loss to the 5A Bengals in the opening round of the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State College.
“We competed in the first quarter tonight but got dominated on the glass and behind the arc,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We gave too many extra possessions and clean looks from 3 for a team that shoots it as well as Lewiston does. They scored on 10 of their 13 second quarter possessions and our lack of urgency during that stretch blew the game wide open.”
Blaze Hepburn scored 21 points for Lewiston.

LEWISTON — Junior Draedon Taylor scored a game-high 20 points for the 3A Wildcats, who fell to the 5A Bears in the fourth-place game of the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State College.
“He had a pretty good tournament offensively,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “He’s been more efficient offensively and getting to better spots on the floor.”
Kellogg went 1-2 in the tournament.
“I really like coming to this tournament because it’s a good temperature check of where we’re at,” Martin said. “It really revealed some of the things we haven’t gotten better at in the last month. It really just identified some bad habits that we’ve got to clean up fast.”
