The impressionistic and contemporary paintings of Kalispell artist Gina Garlie are part of a new exhibit, Wandering with Wonder, on display through Jan. 31 at Phillips Gallery.

Inspired by nature and guided by mindfulness, Garlie’s artwork captures the experience of wandering a forest path, sitting at the edge of a meadow, or walking through a neighborhood.

Her paintings often start outdoors where she immerses herself in the elements and observes the subtle shifts of light, color and mood. Back in the studio, she draws from the experiences to create landscapes that invite reflection, calm and wonder in the viewer.

The public is invited to meet Garlie during a reception scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the gallery, located inside the Kalispell Mall, 20 N. Main St., Kalispell. The artist will give a talk at 5:30 p.m., where people are invited to ask questions about her work.
