SANDPOINT — It was a battle, but the night belonged to the visiting Hawks.
Senior Karstyn Kiefer scored a team-high 15 points for Lakeland in a 49-42 win over the Sandpoint Bullodgs in a 5A Inland Empire League game at Les Rogers Court on Tuesday.
“It wasn’t a pretty win and we still have a lot to clean up, but Karstyn was a force tonight,” Lakeland coach Caelyn Caufield said. “She took a hard foul in the open court, got bandaged up, and came right back in to compete. That toughness says a lot about her and our team.”
Freshman Jaeli Hoffman and junior Macy Bretveld scored 10 points each for Lakeland (11-2), which hosts Moscow on Saturday.
Junior Brecken Mire scored 15 points for Sandpoint (12-2, 1-1), which travels to Moscow on Thursday.

POST FALLS — Junior Brookeslee Colvin scored 32 points in three quarters for the Vikings, who beat the Trojans in the 6A Inland Empire League opener for both at The Arena.
“Their pressure just overwhelmed us,” Post Falls coach Brian Carlson said. “We got them to take the shots we wanted them to take, but they were really good on the offensive boards. Brookeslee is an elite level player and moved the ball around really well.”
Sophomore Lexie Wheeler scored 16 points for Coeur d’Alene (13-2), which has won seven straight.
Sophomore Annabelle Tucker scored 11 points for Post Falls (5-13).
“I’m proud of the girls,” Carlson said. “They never gave up and just kept playing. We just need to go back to the drawing board and get better tomorrow.”
Coeur d’Alene travels to Lake City for the annual Fight for the Fish spirit game on Friday.
Post Falls travels to Lake City on Jan. 14.

LEWISTON — Senior guard Addison Baltzell hit a 3-pointer as time expired to force overtime, then freshman Brynlee Johnston hit a 3 to extend the advantage to 45-39 with 1:44 remaining as the Timberwolves rallied to beat the Bengals at Lewiston High.
“We called a quick hitter and Addison found an opportunity to make a play,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “I’m so proud of her to hit that shot. She’s worked hard, and for her to do that, it was awesome to see.”
Junior Ella Pearson scored a game-high 17 points for Lake City (6-7), which has won six straight games.
“It was such a big game for us,” Pratt said. “Traveling to Lewiston, I didn’t think we played well early on. But to find a way to win, I’m really proud of them.”
Lake City hosts Coeur d’Alene in the annual Fight for the Fish spirit game on Friday.

“We did a good job defensively of covering the entire court,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “Offensively, we shared the ball really well and kept it moving until we found the open player.”
Junior Sophie Holecek scored 15 points, senior Malia Miller 13 points and senior Payton Young 11 points for Timberlake (5-5), which hosts Medical Lake on Thursday.
