Ronan’s City Council met Dec. 30 to swear in Ronan’s new mayor, Ryan Corum, and Ward 3 council member Micah Robertson. Also sworn in was returning city judge Allysen Jones.
Outgoing mayor Chris Adler administered the oath of office to all three.
City Hall was full of well-wishers, with Corum’s mom, Donna Corum, wife Bernadette, and the couple’s four children attending, as well as Jones’s children, and a group of Robertson’s supporters. The new mayor, council member, and returning judge all received a round of applause from the audience.
During the brief meeting, the council unanimously approved an application for an open container permit and road closure for Main Street on May 26 from 1-10 p.m. The closure was requested by the Western Montana Music Cooperative for the Pearl Theatre.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be on Main Street,” said WMMC member Coy Theobalt, noting that the musicians coop moved into the former Entertainer Theatre last April. “This grand opening will create a buzz for downtown and for us.”
The group plans to set up a stage “halfway down the block” as well as tables and chairs with canopy tents. There will be live music outside from 1-4:30 p.m. as well as a silent auction and food trucks located at the west end of the street closure.
The council’s next meeting convenes at 6 p.m. Jan. 14.
