As wrestling season reaches its midway point, Flathead and Glacier have a chance to size each other up as the schools meet at the Wolf Den Friday for the 2026 crosstown dual.

Both schools continue to find their stride with both Flathead teams coming off a victory over Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday. Glacier put two boys on the top step of the podium at the Pacific Northwest Classic in Spokane in its last appearance, while the girls had three placers, including a Katelyn Sphuler win, at the Lady M2 Mallet tournament in Spokane.

“Crosstown is one of those wrestling matches where it might be the only time the people of Kalispell get to see Flathead wrestle every year, so we really emphasize our team to put on a show,” Braves coach Jeff Thompson said.

The battles at 118 and 175 pounds are two that Thompson highlighted for fans to watch.

At 118, Glacier’s Aiden Sweat and Flathead’s Caleb Poe-Hatton are likely to square off — Sweat bested Poe-Hatton for third place in the 2025 state championships at 110.

Glacier’s Matthew Ahner and Flathead’s Colten Conover are expected to meet at 175 in a rematch of the championship at the Pacific Northwest Classic that Ahner claimed with a second-round pin.

The heavyweight matchup is also one to watch with Flathead’s Jakob Berry and Glacier’s Noah Horn on the docket; both finished on the podium in Spokane.

“They (Flathead) are a dynasty,” first-year Glacier coach Mark Fischer said. “That being said, we are not going to back down. We are going to put our foot on the line. We are going to go out there and honor the sport by just going after it and seeing if we can battle with these guys.”

The Braves sit at No. 2 in the state rankings and are 9-1 in duals.

On the girls side, a young Wolfpack side prepares to give it their all on the mat.

“I wouldn’t say we are doing anything different than we do every week,” Wolfpack girls coach Chris Leck said. “It’s just a lot of focus on wrestling well and wrestling tough. When you look at crosstown it brings a lot of excitement, but at the end of the day wrestling is wrestling and we got to wrestle with fundamentals.”

One matchup to watch is at 130, where Glacier freshman Adalyn Cummings — off a third place finish in Spokane — and Flathead’s Julia Kay are expected to battle. Kay wrapped up a second place at the Super 14 tournament in Belgrade over the weekend.

Others to watch Friday include Glacier’s Katelyn Sphuler and Kira Oftedahl — both placed at 100 pounds over the weekend — and Flathead’s Bella Downing at 120 and Kiera Lackey at 135. Downing claimed a title at the CMR Holiday Tournament earlier this season.

“All our girls have been working hard and improving daily,” Bravettes coach Amber Downing said. “It should be a fun night to showcase wrestling in the community.”

The Bravettes handled Sentinel 66-17 in their dual Tuesday against the Spartans.

Both duals start at 4 p.m. with matches running simultaneously on two mats.
