I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 9, 2026 1:00 AM

Brody Rice, Treasure Valley CC Basketball

A 2025 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Brody, a 6-foot-3-inch freshman guard, recorded 10 points (4-6 FG), which included a 2-for-2 effort from three-point range, hauled in four rebounds, three of which were offensive, and dished out an assist across 16 minutes of action in an 82-56 home win over Columbia Basin College on Wednesday night. It was the former Badger standout's second career start for the Chukars, which used 47-29 second-half scoring advantage to pull away. Rice is now averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals per game and is shooting 50 percent from the floor (13-for-26), including 45% from beyond the arc (5-for-11), for Treasure Valley (4-8), which also got four points on 2-for-3 shooting and a rebound, an assist, and a steal from 2025 Bonners Ferry High graduate and 6-foot-6-inch freshman forward Thomas Bateman in the NWAC victory. The Chukars, coached by 2011 Priest River High graduate Eric Holbrook, will travel to Big Bend, 8-8 on the year, for another conference matchup this Saturday afternoon.
