Wilson Ong's solo art exhibition "Revealed in Stillness: Landscapes of Light and Reflection" has a way of quieting the mind as viewers take in tranquil images of sprawling meadows, babbling brooks and peaceful nature scenes.

Through contrasts of light and shadow, turbulent skies and serene waters, these landscapes invite viewers to pause, contemplate and find meaning in the spaces between movement and stillness. Rooted in the philosophy of pastoral art, the works reflect a timeless human longing to find peace and clarity through the rhythms of the natural world.

“I have always enjoyed looking at the figure since I first remember drawing seriously in first grade," Ong says in his artist statement. "With time that interest has been balanced by other subjects, but the human form is still the most attractive genre for me to paint. I’ve enjoyed oil painting as my primary medium, because I find it so versatile. This medium allows me to be spontaneous and calculated depending on the nature of what I am painting. Overall, I think painting is a privilege.”

The exhibit is a collaboration between the Art Spirit Gallery and the Gonzaga University School of Law, managing their prestigious Featured Artist Program. This partnership has thrived over the years. Art Spirit's involvement ensures the artwork reaches thousands of viewers throughout the school year, and the artist’s work is celebrated in the annual Gonzaga Law Magazine and distributed worldwide.

Gonzaga University School of Law is showcasing Ong's solo exhibition through the academic year. The exhibit explores themes of serenity, discovery and the subtle beauty found in stillness. Ong’s luminous landscapes evoke a sense of peace and revelation that resonates deeply with viewers, inviting reflection and mindfulness.

Ong grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and went to Brigham Young University, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing. He furthered his studies at the Art Students’ League in New York City, studying with nationally renowned figurative artists Ted Seth Jacobs and Harvey Dinnerstein.

In addition to his professional art, Ong was a full-time art instructor and department chair for nine years at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah. His students garnered numerous national and in-state awards during that time. He presently resides with his family in Coeur d’Alene, pursuing his art full time. When time allows, Ong teaches workshops for various sized groups.

Arrangements to view "Revealed in Stillness" can be made through the Gonzaga School of Law.
