BUTTE — On Saturday the Bravettes provided the drama as Flathead swept its boys and girls wrestling duals from Butte High.

A dominant start paved the way for the Bravettes, who beat the Bulldogs 48-36; the Brave Brawlers had a slightly easier time securing its 11th dual win, 55-22 over Butte.

Bravettes start fast

“After a tough weekend out of the holiday break, the Bravettes put in extra time and focus,” coach Amber Downing said. “I’m really proud of our girls for this effort to improve.”

The dual started at 105 pounds, and Tatum Ogden, Danica Hennell both scored pins while Flathead surged to a 24-0 lead.

“Those two ladies have really come on with their intensity and technique,” Downing said.

The highlight was at 120, where Bella Downing and Butte’s Addie Hazlett wrestled deep into the third period before Downing, leading 5-2, secured a pin with five seconds left.

Alisha Cook, Julia Kay and Kiera Lackey also racked up falls for the Bravettes.

“We had good roads for a change to accompany good matches,” Amber Downing said. “It was a good day.”

Brawlers move to 11-1

The boys dual started at 110 and it was back and forth against what Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said is a very tough Bulldog squad.

“Aiden Lake beat Reveles McEwen, the No. 5 wrestler in the state, to set the pace,” Thompson said. “Jacob LaNotte at 138 also wrestled strong, and Caleb Poe-Hatten (126) came on strong today after a tough loss last night versus Glacier.”

Lake won his match 8-7; Poe-Hatten, Hunter Arriaga (144), Liam LeDuc (165), Colten Conover (175), Kohen Riley (215) and Jakob Berry (285) also had pins.

“Jakob Berry at heavyweight just keeps getting better every time he steps on the mat, going 2-0 this weekend,” Thompson said. “We are just so proud of his progression.”

The Brave Brawlers’ next action is this coming weekend at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Missoula Sentinel. The Bravettes will also be in Missoula for the Hellgate Mixer.
