POST FALLS — Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene went 3-0 on Friday's first day of the 29th annual River City Duals tournament to advance to the Gold Bracket (unbeaten teams) at Post Falls High.

Coeur d’Alene beat Thunder Ridge of Idaho Falls 72-12, Ephrata (Wash.) 79-6 in the semifinals and Kamiakin of Kennewick, Wash., 52-33 in the Bracket B championship.

“We just overmatched a few teams,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Kamiakin was a good match and they’re a solid team. But it’s going to get a lot tougher tomorrow. Dominic Prangley, Justus (Peregrina) and Rocco (White) were really solid today and Trevor Edwards got a couple of wins. Dominic didn’t wrestle at Tri-State and is just getting rolling again. Overall, we’re wrestling pretty well right now.”

Post Falls beat Timberline of Boise 72-10 and Pasco 78-0 in Bracket A to advance.

Lake City went 2-1 to advance to the Gold Pod B.

Miles Ellsworth notched a pin at 98 pounds for the Timberwolves against Sunnyside to clinch the dual.

“Miles is a little undersized at 89 pounds, but he just fought hard,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “He’s got a big heart and was down 8-1, with not a lot of reasons to keep scrapping, but he found a way to come back and get a pin. It was a neat win.”

In the girls tournament, Post Falls and Sandpoint advanced to the gold bracket after going undefeated in the first day.

Post Falls defeated Shadle Park 60-11 and Mead 58-24 to advance.

Sandpoint, in a four-team pool, beat Lewis and Clark 65-18, Hanford 64-18 and Gallatin 62-12.

The tournament resumes today at 9 a.m., with Copper and Bronze Pod matches during the first session and the Gold and Silver Pods starting at 2 p.m.

The championship duals are scheduled for 4 p.m.
